She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage. ... she never wounds 'till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her.

Hell Freezes Over

Ice first forms in Massachusetts.

If'n you're in the area and feel like shooting on someone else's dime, I'd bet this guy's feeling pretty generous today. He'll be available when he stops floating 10 feet above the ground.

Currency of Faith

I was reading this story over at LawDog's place, and it really got me to thinking. There are those who are so entirely wrapped up in their faith, that they would be willing to shed honor and all that is worldly to profess their faith - usually at the cost of looking like a total fucktard without the faintest scrap of an idea what their holy book or deity had in mind. They usually do, however, realize that by stirring the pot with an elevated amount of vigor, they can ascend to astounding heights, be it in the community, the nation, or just monetarily speaking.

I once heard - live and in person, not on television or radio - discussing one of his regular conversations with God. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the man regularly has chit-chats with The Man Upstairs, literally as you or I would have on the telephone with one another, I Shit You Not. During one of these conversations, God told Senor Copeland to buy a $10,000,000 private jet. To which Copeland replied, "But I already have a $5,000,000 private jet, and I like it just fine." And The Almighty retorteth, "But none of MY people have this $10,000,000 jet." So he bought one. And the crowd - in an arena, not a church or gymnasium, mind you - bought it hook, line, and sinker. And immediately following this was the passing of the offering plate.

I am not creative enough to make this up.

Kenneth Copleland needs to die in a fire so he can go live in one.

Anyhoo, so it wasn't too much of a shock to hear about the remarks of one Pat Robertson about the tragedy in Haiti. (On a sidenote, it was quite interesting to hear how LawDog cleared that up by explaining WTF Robertson was talking about.) I got a first-hand heaping helping insight into how these people operate at a very young age. Aside from having attended every single Christian church of every denomination short of snake-handlers and the Branch Davidians, I also had a very close friend growing up with a mother that could mildly be described by the many derogatory words or phrases of those who are off their rocker with their faith: Holy Rollers, Bible Thumpers, Jesus Coins, etc.

This woman beleived down to her very core that any and all activity that did not directly, actively, and loudly serve God and The Church (particularly HER church) was directly, actively, and loudly in the service of Satan. There was no grey area and no in between. Any musician that wasn't singing All Church Music All The Time was a minion of the devil, actively trying to corrupt the minds of all of humanity into the depths of Hell and service to Beelzebub. And it didn't stop there. Movies, TV shows, even games; Dungeons and Dragons was literally devil worship because it was satanic to role-play.

Yes, you read right.

I think she finally came back to Earth at some point while my friend was in High School, but by the time I was old enough to know what was going on, I kept a distance from that woman. Sooner or later, it seems, I get tired of having everything I say get thrown back at me as Satanic.

So, it little surprise to hear of Pat Robertson heaving his words from the deep end. Honestly, I am more surprised that it's getting so much attention. Alas, "For believers, no proof is necessary; for those who don't believe, no proof is possible. (Stuart Chase)," and it is especially true on those who would knowingly and deliberately sink to the lowest depths under the guise of Holiness. So, when LawDog says,

Pat Robertson could have looked in any book on Haitian history or Haitian mythology and gotten his facts straight, but -- as we like to say here at The LawDog Files:

You're supposed to read books, not eat them ...

and Master Patty doesn't seem to have gotten the memo.

...I know that Pat Robertson is directly and specifically referring to the Vodou ritual performed by Dutty Roukman as Haiti's alignment with the devil.

And Robertson believes it with every fiber of his being.

PS - the names of certain peeps involved weren't even referred to a tiny bit. If anyone here knows me well enough to know who I'm talking about, I'd appreciate it if they'd keep that information to themselves.

Better Men Than I

I would like to go on a four-page tirade about how much of a flaming bag of shit Pat Robertson and Rush Limbaugh are, but there are men out there who are able to sum up my feelings on the subject ever more eloquently - and yet pull no punches - than I.

Course, JayG pretty much nailed it: God called. He said, "Shut the fuck up."

For your listening pleasure, the wordsmith Keith Olbermann.* I will sit back and sip my IPA, while Keith does the damage for me:

To this, I'll add only one thing: You boys enjoy your fifteen minutes off this one. It may be sooner or it may be later, but Karma's gonna catch up with you on this one.

*For the record, I don't follow Olbermann's politics, so don't think I pray at that alter, either. I just like what he said here.

Still Here and a Note

Wow, I sure know how to let this blog collect dust, don't I? Sorry, but I went on a two-week vacation right after my last post, and when I got back Dragon Age: Origins ate my brain. Only reason anyone outside of San Antonio knows I'm alive is because I have the Facebook app on my iPhone.

So on to the note. I'm just gonna say this and that be it.

If anyone outside the Democrat Party had used the word "negro" during The Lightbringer's campaign, that person's punishment would be a combination of what happened to Jesus Christ, Prometheus, and convicted heretics.

Believe that.
